Today was the last day of Surajkund Crafts Mela, a colourful celebration of crafts and cultures from all over… I love the ambience and the festive feeling there.
Everybody looked happy

Pink continues to be the Indian male’s favourite colour

I couldn’t resist bringing this Valentine’s Day gift for our moral police
First there were men and women walking hand in hand!
(Took this picture to capture the beautiful ‘darwaza’)

And then there was this lingerie display

How I wish a blackened face could save us from this ashleeltaa

A traditional Rajasthani dance…

And Shehanshah Akbar e alam looked like he needed a hair cut

We ate gobhi , mooli and aloo paranthas with radish-pickle and kabuli-chana. Two women on the next table thought (aloud) the pickle was bland. Here’s how they thought it should be made
Radish, peeled, sliced and cut into 2 inch pieces. Ground mustard seeds, red chilli, turmeric, salt and oil mixed, kept in sun for two days.
Try it?
I love the Surajkund Mela too IHM:) though its a little dusty and all..and the walk from parking to the place is long ..
Wherever a blogger goes the blogger atma inside dances with excitement at capturing some more moments for posterity eh?
Lovely pics!:)
I was there yesterday (my maiden visit) and shot some 450 pics. I am making a photo blog on it tonight.
Very nice pics. Really colorful.
What lovely pictures. You do need to post more, though, am sure you took lots
Me- Yes Allytude… I was excited at the thought of capturing as much of this day as possible… I will post them on Face book!!
Lovely mela and lol abt the lingerie display!!!!
Me-
Thnks Indy
Lovely captures IHM
LOL at Shehanshah Akbar..
Me- There was a Shiva also a few days back, and my sis in law says, his I-card showed him to be a Khan. So he could say, “My name is Khan”
LOL and that too from the epiglottis
Mooli ke acchar ki recipe hi de dali guru…..badiya bahutey badiya!!
Every month there is something interesting happening around NCR, I miss home
Me – LOL yes and it sounded so good, although I was enjoying the hot off the tawa paranthas, they made me want that pickle to go with them
So glad you brought this to the notice of all the moral police…utterly shameful displays of indecency
The Akbar is hilarious! and oh the brilliant pink was glaring!
Loved this post to bits…incl all the apt smileys!
Me – Just doing my duty as a responsible citizen. Now that V-Day is over I thought they might find some free time…

Wow! That’s interesting and the story behind each pic brought a smile!
I love such fests!
Me – Delhi is so beautiful from now till April, I think we will love any outdoors activity
I have been away from home and away from the blog a lot because of this beautiful end of winter weather…
I love the day everybody wears yellow … what’s that day called?
That is called basant panchami and it was on Jan 20th this year
Me- I missed it!!! Trying to remember if I did wear yellow that day
cool lively photos… hevn’t been to a mela for a long time

Akbar really needs a haircut lolzzz
no never gonna try anything with radish
enjoyable read
Me – No radish Rajlakshmi? I hope next year I find someone who shares a cauliflower or green chilli pickle recipe
Our matted haired Akbar was busy shopping for chappals
I love all the color!
Thank you for sharing these photos with us!
Me – I am glad you liked them! Putting them here was all I was thinking while taking these pictures
Even I like pink colour
But, it has been associated with pink-chaddi campaign
Sad that it’s called ‘girly’ colour
I still wear pink/pinkish shirts though
What’s wrong with a male liking pink colour?
“Here’s how they thought it should be made”
:lol::lol: ’2 days’
Loved the lighter (as in funnier/wittier) side of your blogger self
Me – Of course Haresh men can wear any colour they like, and traditionally Indian men did, they wore jewellery and kept longer hair too, and looked much better than our Shehenshe e alam here
Haresh take a look at lots more men in pink here,

And here about how men must be free to do whatever they have aptitude for or interest in,

Glad to see the pics IHM. Reminded me of fair associated with our local fairs in Kerala. We had one very close to home for every shivrathri. Very nostalgic to see the colors and happy faces.
Me – Lakshmi fairs are a lot of fun, specially if the weather is nice … would love to see pictures of the fest near your place
Beautiful pictures! Looks like you had a really amusing time
Couldn’t help laughing at the lingerie display
Me – The lingerie display had me ginning too
Just the thought of somebody objecting to this display… he he
Wow! You seemed to have had a good time

But honestly these are the true colors which represent India!!!
Me – I agree Smiths!! I love the vibrant colours and dances, and foods, and music that represent India…. I also love the pretty pottery, art, sculptures etc that represent India
This is our lovely, vibrant, lively, inclusive culture
The lingerie is sexy for sure.
Me -Ha ha
And sexy is ashleel says the moral police
OMG! I used to go every year to the mela..just love it for the dance, color, food, puppets, knick knacks, the choodis, dupattas, the entrance gate, the mud constructions, and the drying lake (aww thats bad..lakes not as beautiful as before) and the multitude of people..cheerful and all
now u got all my memories back…thanks..i already feel good!
Lovely pictures. I saw the pink guys too, but it never occurred to me to click their pictures!
Pink for girls and blue for boys is a western concept. Indian men love pink… don’t believe me? Take a look!

Surajkund mela is a fun place to be, I visit it every year ever since it started nearly 2 decades ago. Winters is the best time to be in Delhi, so many events happening. Nice pics!

Hey that was lovely…drooling already for both the trinkets one could buy and for the parathas
And pink.. lol!!
Well, if you explore more of Rajasthan, you will find more so called girlish colours, covering male bodies.
Nice post. Keep Smiling……!
Me – True, not just Rajasthan, also Punjab, Gujarat… basically we had fewer gender based rules for who must wear which colours.
yeah…you are right there.
So let njoy our colorful legacy…:)
Me – LOL
Ha ha Colourful legacy it is!

Wonderful colors of India! Though never been in India(yet), I love them all, saffron and pink and red and gold, as worn by men and women. My country’s colors are blue and white, I think….
Where and when does this mela take place? Pictures very sweet and loving…
Sonia the mela (or a fair) takes place ever year from Feb 1st to Feb 15th. Yes it is beautiful, colourful, vibrant… love the creativity and craftsmanship on display here! There are dances, music, food, lots to buy and lots more to see and enjoy

That was such a nice collage of pictures IHM. These artists and their patrons are the real guardians of the Indian culture and this is a slap in the face of Mr.Mooh Kaala. If there was a way I would have loved to mail-order the lingerie piece to Mutalik !
PS : Good for us that the blogger and the photographer in you goes with you always and does not take a break …
Me- Madhu, love how you put it… “These artists and their patrons are the real guardians of the Indian culture and this is a slap in the face of Mr.Mooh Kaala” – Exactly how I feel! This is culture, and not what these guys try to pretend to protect!
Such lovely pics, IHM! They totally capture the spirit! I miss all these melas so much!
